I-VTEC

◆ i-VTEC is the English abbreviation of "Intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System". It can be said that i-VTEC is an upgraded version of VTEC. VTEC is an engine technology developed earlier by Honda. It was also developed for fuel saving. It was first used in Honda's F1 racing car and was later introduced to mass-produced models.

◆ Compared with ordinary engines, VTEC engines are different in the number and control method of cams and rocker arms. It has two sets of valve-driven cams for medium and low speeds and high speeds, which can be automatically converted through the adjustment of the electronic control system. Through the VTEC system device, the engine can automatically change the opening time and lifting degree of the valve according to the driving conditions, so as to achieve the effect of changing the intake air volume and exhaust volume, thereby reducing fuel consumption and reducing unnecessary emissions to a certain extent.

◆ On the basis of VTEC, i-VTEC adds an intelligent variable timing control system, which adjusts the opening and closing of the intake valve through the ECU control program, so that the overlapping time of the valve is more accurate, and the best intake and exhaust can be achieved. What’s more, it has further increase the power of the engine. Today, VTEC has been replaced by i-VTEC on Honda's main products.
