Dual camshaft Variable Valve Timing system

◆ Variable camshaft control gives the engine smoother idle, more torque, and more flexible power. BMW Double-VANOS double camshaft variable valve timing system changes the timing of the camshaft, allowing power to be optimized throughout the speed range, with higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

◆ The dual camshaft variable valve timing system continuously adjusts the camshaft position of the intake and exhaust valves, resulting in significantly higher torque at low engine speeds and higher power at high engine speeds, while reducing fuel consumption and reducing emission.

◆ At low engine speeds, the position of the camshaft is moved to delay valve opening, improve idle quality and improve the smoothness of power output. As the engine speed increases, the valves open earlier, increasing torque, reducing fuel consumption and reducing emissions. At high engine speeds, the valves reopen with a delayed opening to provide conditions for full power output.

◆ Dual Cam Variable Valve Timing also controls the amount of exhaust gas that is circulated back into the intake manifold to enhance fuel economy. The system uses a set of dedicated parameters during the engine warm-up phase to help the three-way catalytic converter reach the ideal operating temperature faster and reduce emissions. The entire process is controlled by the vehicle's gasoline engine electronics (DME). BMW was the first company to apply adjustable camshaft control device technology.
